Eagle Talon is the name of a popular sports car manufactured by Diamond Star Motors, a joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi from the year 1990 till 1998. It was easy to spot an Eagle Talon on road during the 90s because of its two color tone body. Irrespective of the color of the body of the car, the roof, the pillars, and the mirrors mounted on the doors were always black in color. Out of the 5 automobiles that this JV manufactured, it was only Eagle Talon that became a commercial success. As Diamond Star Motors was a JV between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, the Japanese automotive giant got the license to present Eagle Talon in unrepresented markets as Mitsubishi Eclipse. On the other hand, Chrysler introduced this very car as Plymouth Laser in America and Europe for a short time period. These three cars in totality represent the heart and soul of the sports car called Eagle Talon. There were only minor differences here and there in these cars but they essentially remained the same sports coupe car with a black roof that Eagle Talon had come to represent.
Demand slowed down as consumers wanted refined handling
However, it was not all hunky dory with Eagle Talon. Not all of the features and specifications were to the liking of the people and mind you, most of the excellent features were found only the top model of the car. Yes, Eagle Talon boasted a great design, an aerodynamic body, and above all the fast speed with latest technology. But times were changing and consumers were demanding refinement in handling of the car. Also, there were complaints that lower level models of Eagle Talon were not that fast as its top level model.
Notwithstanding these problems, Eagle Talon continued to sell in large numbers through the early and mid nineties. But after lasting for two generations, the fate of this popular sports car was sealed when the joint venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler got broken. With the company called DSM ceasing to exist, it was impossible for Eagle Talon to be produced and sold in the markets. Mitsubishi continued to manufacture Eclipse. Thus it continued the legacy of Eagle Talon forward into the new millennium. Eagle Talon is today remembered as an older relative of Mitsubishi Eclipse and a sports coupe car that created a flutter in the market during the time when it was introduced.
